Z KITCHEN OF SPIRITS - THE STORY OF Z CUCINA
The restaurant came to be as an extension of my ten years experience in my family businesses in the North Market, Pastaria & Sarefino’s. In 2005, I opened Z Cucina di Spirito to provide a seasonal and chef driven culinary experience in a warm environment.
The “Z” is the first letter of my last name, “cucina” is Italian for kitchen and “Spirito” is my mother’s maiden name. This translates as “Z kitchen of spirits”.
I grew up in Columbus attending Saint Andrew School in Upper Arlington, Bishop Watterson High School and The Ohio State University. As a child I was primarily fixated on two ideas; playing music, and turning my family home into a restaurant featuring my mothers cooking. I spent the first part of my life pursuing a professional music career as a drummer in various bands playing locally. I toured nationally with Oswald and the Herringbones as well as worked in marketing for Polaris (Germain) Amphitheater.
In the second chapter of my life, I opened a restaurant. Z Cucina occupies a space that was the original post office serving the Grandview area and later Byerly’s Aquarium Supplies. We are established as a restaurant with a rustic yet modern approach to Italian cuisine. I am on site every night greeting and seating guests. We have hosted rehearsal dinners, weddings, business meetings and more. A first visit from a guest is considered a valuable opportunity that my staff and I hope leads to a long term relationship.
